The serpentine fronted top with tooled black leather writing surface over frieze of three shaped drawers with scrolling ormolu branch and leaf handles supported by cabriole legs with gilt bronze espagnolettes extending to foliated chutes and leaf sabots. The ormolu mounts and graceful curving lines of this stunning bureauplat are a perfect example of the French version of the Rococo style that peaked in popularity between 1720 and 1750. The quality and craftsmanship of the work produced by the French ebenistes of the 18th century was highly regulated through registered guilds.
