Provenance: The Signe and Merritt Ruddock Collection, Melbourne. Merritt Ruddock was a Harvard graduate who lived a colorful life of travel, as a broadcaster, industrialist and cattle rancher, whilst also serving with the office of Strategic Services during World War II and as first secretary of the US Embassy in London. Merritt Ruddock and his wife Signe were collectors of 19th Century British and European furniture as well as marble and bronze statuary.
