(G54) A rather solemn depiction of the bodhisattva of compassion, resplendent with polychrome application, seated in lalitasana with her hands in a form of vitarka mudra, holding a lotus flower-head in her right hand, crowned with a high foliate diadem centred by the carved effigy of the seated Amitabha Buddha, her hair tied back into a high chignon, the dramatically rendered curved hairline framing her face, her idealized features set in a somewhat austere expression, with her eyes inlaid with stone, the full lips pursed gravely, her bare chest adorned with an intricate multi-tiered foliate necklet, with a vermilion and copper-green elongated shoulder scarf about her upper arms and trailing alongside her body to the foot, a brahmanic cord looped diagonally across her upright torso and tied at the waist to secure the skirt of her dhoti, embellished with vermilion and copper-green pigments, with ornamental chains bearing flower-head pendants secured below the knee.

Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection prior to 2006.
