(G46) A fine portrayal of the bodhisattva of compassion, enlivened with traces of polychrome application, seated in a form of the pensive attitude posture, with the hands crossed in front and supporting the right knee, atop a recumbent elephant, her round face with idealized features crowned with a high petal-shaped headdress embellished with incised foliate scrolls, her facial features delicate and harmonious, framed by a prominent hairline, the hair drawn up into an elegant high chignon, her slender torso in an upright position, an elongated shoulder scarf draped alongside her body and over the haunches of the beast, creating a unity of form, the elephant with eyes articulated, its small ears curling downwards, the trunk coiled inwards.

Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection prior to 2006.

Height: 86cm
