Clad in a double skirted gilt vestment, the figure holds a small model of a church in his left hand, the right arm raised outward towards the onlooker. The figure in question is possibly St Paul, who, like St Peter (usually imagined as an older bearded man), is often depicted in clerical attire and holding an ecclesiastic building, symbolising their ascribed role as the ‘pillars of the Church’ according to Biblical hymnography.
