(G58) A dynamic portrayal of the benevolent bodhisattva, enlivened with polychrome application, seated in rajalilasana, her left hand resting on the raised knee, the right hand supporting the pose, crowned with a pierced foliate diadem bearing the carved effigy of the seated Amitabha Buddha seated in dhyanasana, her hair enhanced with naturalistic blue-black pigment, arranged into a dramatic high chignon, with twisted tresses looped around her pendulous lobes and flowing in rippling tendrils over her shoulders, the curved hairline framing her characteristically rounded face with pleasingly harmonised features, with a slightly raised urna in the centre of her forehead, between the gently curving eyebrows, surmounting her half-closed, almond-shaped eyes, her soft lips gently pursed with the corners slightly upturned in a subtle smile, the facial expression radiating humility and peace, the body draped in ornamental fluttering scarves, enlivened with a deep vermilion pigment, with an intricate foliate necklet garlanding her bare chest, a brahmanic cord slung diagonally across her torso and tied in a loose bow at her waist to secure the billowing double-skirt of her dhoti, which falls gracefully to her ankles, the folds in the fabric in rhythm with the contours of her seated form, with both feet exposed.

Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection prior to April 2010.
