(G65) Seated majestically in rajalilasana, with her right hand resting on the raised knee, the left hand supporting the pose, the figure crowned with an intricate foliate diadem, the carved effigy of the Amitabha Buddha seated in dhyanasana raised on its peak, her hair arranged in an elaborate high chignon, with tresses looped around her pendulous lobes and trailing in splayed tendrils over her shoulders, her prominent hairline with dramatically rendered ripples, framing her round face, with the features pleasingly harmonised and forming an expression of utter serenity, the bold eyes inlaid with stone, her shoulders draped with an ornamental scarf, garlanded with multi-tiered chains , with bracelets encircling her wrists, the brahmanic cord looped loosely around her straight curvaceous torso and fastened in a loose bow at the waist to secure the skirt of her dhoti, which falls in a graceful double-skirt to her ankles, with both feet exposed.
Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection from 1938 until being purchased in April 2010.
