Based on the marble from the Townley Collection, now housed in the British Museum, London, Circa 130 – 138 A.D. Antinous was emperor Hadrian’s favourite, sculpted with ivy leaves and berries in his hair, in the guise of Bacchus, and with a downward gaze, foreboding his eventual early demise.
