(G62) Exquisitely carved, the bodhisattva of compassion bedecked with plentiful adornments, seated in rajalilasana atop a recumbent qilin, her right forearm resting on the raised knee, the left forearm supported by an elliptical armrest, her head crowned with an elaborate high diadem displaying the intricately carved effigy of the seated Amitabha Buddha on the petal-shaped frontal facet, her hair arranged into an elaborate high looped chignon, with twisted tresses looped around her pendulous lobes and trailing in splayed tendrils over her shoulders, the curved hairline framing her characteristically round face with finely carved features, an urna mark in the centre of her forehead, her eyebrows subtly articulated, surmounting narrow, half-closed eyes with their gaze downcast, her small mouth forming a solemn pout, she wears floral earrings and an intricate, multi-tiered chain across her bare chest, her shoulders draped in fluttering scarves, a brahmanic cord looped diagonally across her torso and tied in a loose bow at the waist to secure the tumbling, layered skirt of her dhoti, with ornamental chains attached to the fabric, with both feet exposed, seated upon a qilin, its fearsome face with bared teeth twisted back towards the bodhisattva, wearing a broad collar around its neck, with tight scrolls of hair framing its jowls, its eyes inlaid with stone, all set upon a rocky naturalistic base.

Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection prior to 2006.
