A majestic portrayal of the bodhisattva of compassion, the facial features idealised and harmonious, with high arching eyebrows surmounting half-closed eyes, the full lips pursed in a meditative expression, the diamond-shaped urna indented in the centre of her broad forehead, the hair finely detailed, swept up and arranged dramatically in a high chignon, with long tresses falling over the shoulders, a multi-tiered necklace with a low-hanging pendant around the neck, ornate armlets encircling the upper arms, seated in lalitasana, one arm with lower section now missing, the other arm relaxed with hand clutching cloth, her brahmanic cord draped diagonally across the torso and tied around the waist so that the dhoti forms a voluminous skirt, with folds sharply emphasized.

Provenance: In a private Hong Kong collection prior to 2010.
